Towards Munich
With just one point collected in seven Grands Prix – which for the moment is eighth place in the Constructors’ standings – Alpine presents itself in Monte Carlo. Given the absence of the French GP from the World Championship calendar, this event becomes in some way the home race for the Renault-owned team and its two drivers, Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon.
Opposite memories
For the two ‘cockerels’ inside the Alpine i chicken coop memories of Munich 2023 are opposite: unforgettable for Ocon, who obtained a fantastic podium; a nightmare for Gasly, who came seventh after having dreamed of being able to recover to third place, thanks to an aggressive strategy that was ruined by the decision to fit rain tires too late. This year, however, for both expectations are very different and already entering the top-10 would be a success.
The words of Ocon and Gasly
“Monaco is a special place in the calendar and is synonymous with Formula 1 and motorsport history – commented Ocon, presenting round 8 of this season – as a driver, it’s a weekend where you need to give your best and stay focused the entire time. Monaco is a track where the driver can really make the difference. If you feel comfortable with the car, if the car is well set up and runs as you want, you can race close to the barriers and find profit margins. That’s what happened last year, when I felt good in the car from the first test session. I have good memories, especially for the podium achieved. Without a race in France, this can be considered a home race for us, along with Silverstone. Realistically, I don’t think we can repeat last year’s performance, but we will give our all to get the best possible result.”.
“This is the closest race to France of the whole season – Pierre Gasly also confirmed – therefore even if it is not an actual home race – given that this definition is reserved for Charles [Leclerc] – it is still a special stage for us, having so much support from the French public. It’s the race I’m most looking forward to on the calendar. Here you can take big risks to get big rewards, as we experienced as a team last year. I’ve had some unfinished business here for twelve months now, so I can’t wait to get out on track. It is a legendary place. We will work hard to find the rhythm as quickly as possible and to get comfortable with the car during testing. From there, we’re going to need a little magic on Saturday and then we will see where we have arrived“.
