Alpine has officially announced that from 2024 it will be involved in the FIA World Endurance Championship with two new LMDh prototypes.
A somewhat surprising communication regarding the modalities – an anonymous Tuesday evening in early October, at an even more unusual time such as 9:45 pm – but not from a sporting point of view, given that the French manufacturer is already busy this year in the Hypercar Class of the World Endurance Championship.
The choice of this last step – with the old LMP1 of Oreca (ex Rebellion) – was clearly dictated by the desire to understand how to act in the future in the environment; in this case we will continue to work with the same transalpine frame builder, also exploiting the experiences of the F1 department of Viry-Châtillon and the aerodynamic section of Enstone.
The collaboration in the FIA WEC with the Signatech Team has been confirmed, which already this year continues work with the A480 # 36 after the journey started some time ago in LMP2, until the arrival of the LMDh from 2024 to 2027, even if the programs for the next seasons will be announced later.
“The Alpine Endurance program underlines the dedication and ambition of the brand in motorsport – said CEO, Laurent Rossi – Competing in both Formula 1 and endurance, Alpine will be one of the rare brands to be present in the two key disciplines of the motorsport. We will make the most of Formula 1 and endurance through technical and technological synergies to gain the advantage over prestigious rivals “.
Philippe Sinault, Signatech Team Principal, added: “It is a great pride for Signatech to have been chosen by Alpine to join LMDh. This is the culmination of a joint project that began eight years ago. More than ever, we have great ambitions. and we are happy to take our collaboration to another dimension. After 32 years of career in motorsport, I can’t wait to challenge the most prestigious manufacturers on the planet, with Alpine, a brand that transmits passion and lives only to be successful “.

Pierre Fillon, President of the ACO is also happy: “Another prestigious brand has joined the Hypercar class, the new first category of endurance racing. There have been many announcements in the last year and that of Alpine is excellent news for our discipline. The Hypercar regulation is a success and we are delighted to see a high quality grille taking shape. “
Richard Mille, President of the FIA Endurance Commission, echoes him: “Having another brand with a winning pedigree in endurance racing committing to building a Hypercar is excellent news for the FIA World Endurance Championship. It also proves that the new first Classe is an excellent platform for the Houses “.
This is how Frédéric Lequien, CEO of the FIA WEC comments: “The confirmation of Alpine’s involvement in Hypercar is excellent news that will take our championship far beyond the boundaries of endurance racing. Alpine and Signatech have a glorious history in the FIA WEC and, with the technical expertise and the knowledge of the entire Alpine team, I am sure that the team will fight for the world crown. It is an honor that Alpine continues to accompany us in this exciting new era of our sport. “
And so we have another great company ready to compete with the category rivals armed with the same vehicles, such as Porsche, Audi, Cadillac, Acura and BMW, as well as with the already existing Hypercars from Toyota and Glickenhaus, the upcoming ones from Ferrari and ByKolles, waiting to understand what choices other brands will make such as Lamborghini, which has already repeatedly said it is also aiming for LMDh.
