The F1 of tomorrow
Formula 1 knew its future on the eve of this year’s Canadian GP, all thanks to the official presentation of the new technical regulations which will come into force from 2026. In this case, the elements that have aroused greatest interest are those relating to the introduction of Manual Override Mode, but also a concept of more agile and lighter cars.
30 kg less
In this last respect, in fact, the single-seaters they will lose as much as 30 kgtherefore going from the current weight of 798 kg to 768. A change that is not convincing, however Fernando Alonsowhich since its debut in F1 in 2001 has seen the introduction of various technologies and numerous aerodynamic changes, without naturally excluding the transition to power units in 2014.
‘Impossible’ goal
Commenting on the new regulations, the two-time world champion seemed rather skeptical about the possibility of reducing the weight of the cars so much, explaining the reasons: “I think it is impossible to reach 30 kg already – declared the Aston Martin driver – the fact is that if the engine is 50% electric, batteries are needed to support it. I think so too tyres they are heavierand cars will increase by 20 or 30 kg due to the power unit“.
Trust in engineers
Although he is not convinced, Alonso still trusts in the preparation of the engineers to be able to solve the problem he indicated: “If you want to reduce 30 kg you need to reduce the current car by 60 kg, which at the moment seems, probably to the teams, an impossible objective – he concluded – they have two years to achieve this goal. As always in F1, what is impossible today will become reality in 2026, because there are very intelligent people in the teams. I think everything is a consequence of something else that is in the car.”
