Other points in the safe
Another point-scoring finish for theAston Martin which once again bears the signature of Fernando Alonso. After reaching the top 10 in Baku, the two-time Spanish world champion managed to repeat the feat a week later on the Marina Bay circuit, historically one of the most complex in the Circus both technically and, above all, physically.
The undercut card
Difficulties highlighted by Alonso himself at the end of the test, which ended at8th place behind his compatriot Carlos Sainz. A position that allows the #14 to increase his gap in the standings on Nico Hülkenberg (9th in the race) and Lance Stroll, both tied at -38 from the 43-year-old: “It was a very physical race, but we executed everything well and got some good points. – he explained – we tried the undercut strategy stopping a few laps before the others and it worked pretty well for us. It was actually a difficult car to drive all weekend and we did very well to finish just a few seconds behind a Ferrari. We have a lot of work to do at Silverstone in the coming weeks to try to improve our performance for Austin”.
Difficulties at the weekend
Grand Prix of the Americas which will be held in almost a month, on the weekend between 18 and 20 October, where Lance Stroll will aim to return to the points zone. A result that the Canadian driver has been missing since the Dutch GP, and which would allow the Aston Martin driver to extend his lead over Hulkenberg or Tsunoda, the latter two points behind the aforementioned drivers: “It’s been a very difficult weekend here in Singapore. – he commented – During my laps on the grid I felt some strange vibrations, so the team worked quickly to replace a set of brakes as a precaution. It was a big effort from the mechanics, so a big thank you to them for fixing the problem so quickly in this heat. We knew it was going to be a difficult race and we suffered from similar issues to Saturday: grip and balance. Austin is a very different circuit, so hopefully it will be more suited to our car.”
