In the last Embracer Group financial reportnegative results emerged for Alone in the Dark And Outcast: A New Beginningtwo of the most talked about double A’s of the beginning of the year, which evidently did not resonate with the public.
The exact numbers were not revealed for both, but there was talk of results below expectations, despite the good reception by the public. One of the reasons given for these results was the critical reception, not always positive, which however alone does not explain the fall.
In short, it is more of another confirmation that certain products no longer work on the traditional marketif not in the face of enormous investments to make them reach certain standards, which are impossible for small to medium teams and which have in fact altered the general perception of the public, suffocating the market.
The various results of Embracer
Fortunately the report contained other findings, some of them positive. For example, the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered collection was positively received and its performance exceeded the company’s expectations. Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collectio received negative reviews from users, but its performance was in line with estimates. South Park: Snow Day! It received mixed reviews from critics and users, but fell within expectations. Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, developed by Funday Games and published by Ghost Ship Games (Coffee Stain), launched to great reception and far exceeded expectations. Finally, Lightyear Frontier, developed and published by FRAME BREAK (Amplifier), received a positive reception and performed well, in line with expectations.
Paradoxically, the two worst-performing projects are the most publicized ones, essentially two pure single player titles, theoretically more in line with the tastes of the so-called core audience. Instead they failed to achieve the desired results.
