With this almost new A45S you are still cheaper than a simple Yaris with automatic transmission. Strange but true.
Yesterday Toyota announced the prices of the new GR Yaris. The car has undergone some changes and now has more power and better sprint capabilities, in addition to a new interior and the option to opt for an automatic transmission. It immediately became an insanely expensive car, from 50,000 euros in 2020 to 100,000 euros in 2024.
Of course we know that you should never compare new cars with used cars. That's not fair. But we did it anyway. Because if you want a GR Yaris with an automatic transmission, you will spend almost a ton. For that money you also have the most powerful Hot Hatch you can get from the factory: the Mercedes-AMG A45S 4Matic+!
Yes, we know that the GR Yaris is a special homologation special with a lower weight and a special appetite for winding mountain roads. But it's not like this A45S weighs two tons and can't turn a corner. In fact, you can even drift in this explosive A-Class!
Almost new A45S
The cheapest A45S in the Netherlands (at least of the second generation) is certainly not the most boring. It is a so-called Street Style Edition. So you have the extra heavy body kit, AMG stickers on the side and other red details. The 19-inch cross-spoke wheels are also present, as well as a Hiawatha-esque rear spoiler. The color (Selenite Gray Magno) is not particularly subtle, but in combination with the red-orange details and stickers it does look nice.
A major advantage of an A45S over a Yaris is the interior. As cool as a Yaris is, the interior is more or less that of a – you guessed it – Yaris. That's not a big deal for 50 grand, but it is for 100 grand. In the A45 you have great sports seats, beautiful finishes and the latest technology.
Unfortunately, it is a facelift model, so you have to do it WITHOUT that handy dial in the middle. That was with the Model plflege sucked away in favor of a bowl. Also useful. Fortunately, you can always operate the excellent MBUX system with a touchscreen and buttons on the steering wheel. The latter in particular is very pleasant.
What do you choose?
Of course, a GR Yaris is a great sports car, but the A45S is simply faster. Here you don't have a three-cylinder, but one of the best four-cylinders ever made. The engine produces 421 hp and 500 Nm, allowing you to sprint to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 270 km/h. That is simply a completely different order.
This specific example is from 2023, with an odometer showing only 5,500 km. The price of this almost new A45S is of course not cheap. You will have to take 97,850 euros with you.
