Renewed cars, new models or simply some mechanical or aesthetic changes and updates mean that, from October to December, the market is
pending presentation and arrival at Spanish dealers of at least 25 novelties. All of them marked by a context of crisis that affects consumers, who are looking for low-consumption cars, and also by fashion, in which SUVs continue to be the predominant trend.
This year has been complicated, both due to the drop in vehicle production in Spain and sales figures. During
the first eight months of 2022, production has decreased by 1% compared to last year, reaching a total of 1,399,262 units. Although in recent months a moderate growth has already been noted thanks to the improvement in the supply of chips and the ability of factories to adapt to the availability of components, the sector continues to be affected by the crisis in raw materials.
An important factor is also the growing trend towards electrification, with hybrid, plug-in hybrid or 100% electric vehicles increasingly in demand, and which in turn raise prices and require
a larger number of components. These are some of the reasons for the aforementioned slowdown in production and sales in Spain.
According to the latest data from the Manufacturers Association,
ANFACthe main production corresponds to electrified vehicles, which reached a 12.8% share in the month of July, with 19,464 units, and 11.8% in the month of August,
with 13,181 units manufactured in this month. Until the eighth month of the year, electrified, hybrid and gas vehicles account for 13% of vehicles manufactured with a total of 182,436 units.
Regarding the production of electrified vehicles, in the first eight months of the year they accumulated 11.4% of vehicle production, with a total of 159,843 units, 22.9% more than the same period of the previous year. By type, plug-in hybrids add up to a total of 88,606 units, with an increase in production of 5.3% compared to 2021. For its part,
the pure electricsuntil the eighth month they accumulate 71,237 units, of which 53,844 are passenger cars, with a growth of 55.4% compared to the same period in 2021.
By segments, SUVs continue to increase their weight in sales. A reason more than enough so that most of the novelties that we will see in the coming months are precisely from this segment, in which the trend also drifts towards hybrid or plug-in hybrid mechanics. Because although
sales of 100% electric cars have increased by 47% compared to last year, the truth is that they barely account for 3% of the total market,
with some 21,276 units sold.
Among the most striking among the novelties, cars from the less popular segments stand out, such as supercars and Pick-Up trucks, which maintain a very loyal type of customer.
