“It was March 2023, I was at home where I was preparing for a musical, when I was no longer able to articulate the words. It was thanks to the promptness of the person who was with me and the timeliness of the help that I was able to avoid further consequences more serious”. Mauro Coruzzi, aka Platinette, thus remembers the stroke that struck him a year ago. “Facing and overcoming a traumatic event like this made me feel the need to make my contribution” to raise awareness among citizens of a disease that changes the lives of around 100 thousand people in our country alone every year. The host is the new testimonial of Alice Italia Odv, the Italian Association for the fight against cerebral stroke, which announces the collaboration in the month of April, dedicated to the prevention of the pathology.
“Now I can say that I am well, I am self-sufficient, I can move, I take the stairs, even if slowly. I have worked and continue to work to better recover the use of the word which for me, as for Andrea Vianello” president of Alice , “it is a fundamental tool”, says Coruzzi who has decided to “support, in my small way, this association which for years has been involved in information campaigns aimed at citizens on the knowledge of cerebral stroke, of the risk factors that favor its onset and what to do if you recognize the symptoms”. Because, cerebral stroke is a strictly time-dependent disease: “Every minute is fundamental – Alice warns – The earlier we intervene, the better the results obtained thanks to the available therapies”.
Keeping atrial fibrillation, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar under control are some of the first rules for reducing the risk of stroke. In addition to not smoking, not consuming alcohol in excess, not using drugs, carrying out moderate and constant physical activity, following a healthy and balanced diet, reducing salt in foods and monitoring your weight. “Changing your lifestyle, treating some pathologies that can cause it – Alice underlines – means carrying out active prevention within everyone's reach, implementing all the necessary strategies to avoid stroke and its consequences”.
The president of the association, 'no more taboos, we need to talk about it without fear or shame'
“We are extremely grateful to Mauro Coruzzi for his willingness to support our association in its constant fight against stroke”, declares Vianello. “The word stroke is very frightening – he highlights – it is still considered taboo despite the fact that in our country it represents the first cause of disability and the third cause of death, after cardiovascular diseases and neoplasms”.
“Mauro and I are 'stroke colleagues', we share a long, tiring recovery journey which can often be disheartening, but we are here to bring our experience, because we need to talk about stroke – urges the president of Alice – without fear and shameless”.
