The Alfafar City Council has denied the hoax spread through social networks by the ultra agitator Vito Quiles and the far-right MEP Alvise Pérez about the alleged throwing to the landfill of entire trucks of clothing in good condition donated by people for the victims of the DANA. A councilor and the council, through a video, have reported that these are clothes damaged by humidity.
Vito Quiles has released a video in which a truck appears dumping dozens of bags in a landfill, the contents of which cannot be seen. At one point, the agitator shows a bag in which he states that there are clothes “in good condition,” and criticizes: “If they are doing this with the clothes, imagine what they are doing with the food.”
For his part, Alvise Pérez, standing on a truck full of boxes whose contents cannot be seen, assures that they are donated clothes that “are taken to a landfill to be burned, because the logistics of this criminal administration is incapable of generating the capacity to generate distribution points.” The Alfafar City Council has also denied this hoax and has pointed out that these are garments discarded by professional healthcare workers.
The deputy mayor of Alfafar, Empar Martín, explained that “from the first moment the largest volume of donations has been clothing, that is why from the second day we already asked that no more be sent. He also explains that the clothes arrived in “precarious” conditions, because “people have sent them urgently and as best they could, in bags and cardboard boxes, often broken.” When it was received, Martín adds that a “triage” was done to rule out any that were not in good condition.
In addition, there was a shipment that was left outdoors and, despite being covered by tarps, when it rained on Sunday, it became damp. Hours later, both health workers and volunteer biologists warned that the clothing situation could cause a source of unsanitary conditions and infections, and that it could even be dangerous if it was close to food storage.
Given this situation, Empar Martí explains that transportation had to be called to destroy it because he was not in a position to donate these clothes to other charitable institutions or NGOs either. Regarding logistics problems, the councilor explains that they still have warehouses of clothing in good condition and that this is distributed in different parts of the town to all those neighbors who come because they need it. “Misinformation only aggravates the situation we are experiencing. It is important not to share hoaxes.”
In the same way that the Alfafar City Council insists that at this time there is no longer a need for more donations of this type of material, it also informs that there is a municipal account opened by the Alfafar City Council to collect financial donations and direct them to the affected people. by DANA. Fully affected municipalities such as Utiel, Chiva or Paiporta are in the same situation, which for four days has also asked that no more clothing be donated and offer accounts for monetary donations.
On the other hand, among the aid that is being distributed in solidarity over the last two days, hot food rations at midday stand out, both for residents and volunteers, rations that have reached 3,000 daily.
