The Swiss media Le Temps released the information that has already had a great global impact. According to their report, the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the Movement for Credible Cycling (MPCC) have been monitoring the use of an extremely powerful opioid since the beginning of this year, and there is concern about its possible use in the peloton. .
Le Temps spoke with Reger Legeay, president of the MPCC, who stated: “It took us 12 years to ban tramadol, we hope this time it will be faster,” he said. “Healthy athletes do not need this, and eliminating pain is a sporting improvement,” added the manager.
Since last year, the UCI has asked WADA to monitor this drug for an upcoming ban on it.
In January of this year, Tramadol was added to WADA’s list of banned substances.
What is it?
It is a Class A controlled drug in the United Kingdom and a Schedule I controlled drug in Canada, in the same class as morphine, fentanyl, tramadol and heroin.
