The Local Police resumes this month the traffic surveillance campaigns, especially on the coast, together with the General Directorate of Traffic
The Local Police of Cartagena carried out from August 8 to 14 a monitoring and alcohol control campaign in which they carried out 449 tests on drivers in different areas of the municipality. The priority was the beach areas.
“Throughout the campaign, carried out in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic, only five cases of drivers who tested positive for alcohol consumption were detected, which resulted in four administrative complaints and one judicial complaint. In addition, a driver was denounced for lacking a valid driving license in Spain, ”the councilor for Citizen Security, Juan Pedro Torralba, explained yesterday to LA VERDAD.
With regard to the consumption of stupefaction, the agents carried out six tests, of which three were positive, added the mayor. And he pointed out that one of the objectives was “to make drivers aware of the risk of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, since it increases the braking distance and decreases reaction time.” He does it because “it reduces physical and mental abilities” and is “the cause of numerous traffic accidents.”
In addition, the authorities recalled that driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages, toxic drugs, narcotics and psychotropic substances can be punished with prison sentences of three to six months, a fine of six to twelve months or work for the benefit of the community of thirty for one to ninety days. The law also provides for the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for more than one and up to four years.
The traffic controls, which stopped being carried out in July due to a lack of agents, continued yesterday on Sebastián Feringán Avenue.
