Alex Albon represents one of the novelties – in terms of drivers present on the grid – of the 2022 Formula 1 season. The Thai, who between 2019 and 2020 had started his career in the Circus with Toro Rosso and Red Bull, returns to occupy a seat from owner after an entire year spent between the Milton Keynes simulator and the DTM races. In fact, Albon was chosen by Williams to replace the departing George Russell, who joined Mercedes. Born in London but on the track with a Thai license given his double passport, the former Red Bull standard bearer will thus reassemble the couple lined up by the DAMS team in 2018 in Formula 2 together with Nicholas Latifi.
Albon, following the presentation of the new FW44, has also unveiled what will be his new helmet. It is evident, looking at the sponsorships present, that his contractual link with Red Bull has not vanished at all, on the contrary. Thinking about the very tense final of last year, one can therefore note with curiosity how the 25-year-old driver is in fact linked to the Austrian brand and is driving for a Mercedes-powered team. A decidedly unusual bridge between two teams that in recent months have seen their rivalry grow exponentially.
