One of the most frustrating facts for F1 drivers and fans is the fact that there are few if any cars capable of competing for victories and world titles. A much lower number than the number of drivers at the start capable of fighting for the top positions. Circus is currently experiencing a considerable injection of talent from very young pilots already capable of winning or at least fighting to win. World champion Max Verstappen is the ‘leader’ of one brood which also includes Charles Leclerc, George Russell and Lando Norris.
During the pandemic and the lockdown often these pilots – with the exception of Verstappen – have ‘grouped’ up Twitch to have fun together online with some video games. Also with them was Alexander Albon, who has shared his racing career with Russell and Norris since the days of karting. The current Williams driver in the role of team manager has clear ideas of how he would compose the pair of pilots of his ideal stable.
“Without budget limits I’d do anything to get Max Verstappen in the car – said Albon interviewed by the German newspaper Auto Motor und Sport – he is extremely talented and has a complete set of skills and experience, a ‘package’ in which there is everything. Looking to the future I would then take another young driver between Lando Norris and George Russell. I think the choice would fall on Lando, because a couple with George and Max could lead to too many fireworks. In addition, Max and Lando already have an excellent relationship of friendship that binds them. Charles Leclerc is also on the same level, Max Verstappen simply has more experience. This year Leclerc has made a big leap in quality ”.
When asked about the potential envy of his peers with much more competitive cars than his Williams Albon, he replied: “It is a fact that I have to accept. I got my chance and it came too early in my career“his words in reference to the season and a half in which he was able to have a Red Bull alongside Max Verstappen in the second half of 2019 and 2020.
