Finally on points
For the first time this season, the Williams prepares for a GP with the knowledge of having gained at least one point in the Constructors’ standings. A result made possible by 10th place Alexander Albon in the last GP in Monaco, when the Anglo-Thai driver took advantage of his excellent performance in qualifying to defend his placing in the top ten until the finish line, in a race which also had no pit stops.
The importance of the weather factor
Now, two weeks after that top-10 finish, the 28-year-old faces the challenge of Canadian Grand Prix, which brings back fond memories to the former Toro Rosso and Red Bull man. Last year, in Montreal, Albon actually closed the 7th placein what still today proves to be his best placing in Williams together with that of the Italian GP, again in 2023: “We travel to Canada this week and the team and I have fond memories of last year’s P7, our first big points race of the season – he has declared – I’m curious to see how the FW46 will behave on this circuit, which always offers good racing and overtaking possibilities. The weather will play an important role in the opportunities that may arise, so I hope that as a team we can maximize this. Montreal is one of my favorite cities and I can’t wait to go back.”
According to forecasts, the entire weekend of the Canadian GP could be affected by rain and thunderstorms. But if Albon can in the meantime be considered satisfied with what he has achieved in the Principality of Monaco, the same is not true for Logan Sargeantstill chasing his first points of the season together with the two Sauber drivers: “I can’t wait to participate in the Canadian Grand Prix. The Montreal track is one of the best on the calendar, with its combination of fast straights and tight corners creating a good flow for the races. This event is known for its unpredictable weather conditions, which can create some interesting opportunities. We hope we can have a positive weekend as a team.”
