PT member says that sometimes he hears that Lira is “nervous” and, therefore, he sends Rui Costa to talk to him, because “2 nervous people understand each other”
The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) praised and thanked the presidents of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), for articulating with the government in Congress. The declaration comes after a moment of tension between the PT administration and the 2 leaders of the Legislature.
“I am very grateful for what the Senate and the Chamber have done for our government. Every now and then I hear people say: ‘Ah, Lira is nervous’. Then I send the Rui Costa [ministro da Casa Civil] go talk to him, two nervous people understand each other”, said Lula. Also present at the event, Lira laughed at the Chief Executive’s speech.
The president also thanked the president of the Lower House for the approval in the Chamber of Deputies of a PDL (Project Legislative Decree) against wage inequality.
The project in question caused friction between the two. Lula became angry after Lira filed an urgent request to take the text directly to the Chamber plenary, without going through the House committees.
CONGRESS
At the beginning of April, Lira harshly criticized the chief minister of the Institutional Relations Secretariat, Alexandre Padilha. The deputy stated that the minister, responsible for coordinating the Lula government, was “incompetent” and plant “fake news” about Congress.
After the statements by the President of the Chamber, Lula said he would keep Padilha in office “just stubbornness”.
The climate worsened even further when the government fired the regional superintendent of Incra (National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform) in Alagoas, Wilson César de Lira Santos. He is Lira’s cousin.
After the episodes, Lula had private conversations with Lira. The president did not detail what was discussed.
The PT member also spoke with Pacheco to try to improve the relationship between the Executive and the Legislative. The meeting took place after, at the request of the government, the minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) Cristiano Zanin overturned the exemption for 17 sectors of the economy and municipalities with more than 156.2 thousand inhabitants, on April 25.
On more than one occasion, Pacheco said the government committed a “primary error” in judicializing the issue. The action increased tension between the Powers.
On April 26, Pacheco filed an appeal asking for the Court’s decision to be revoked. Congressmen assess that the government has not complied with agreements made in the Legislature and, at the same time, expect cooperation from Congress on issues considered priorities.
