Brazilian First Lady and Sheikha Moza met to discuss their actions and Brazil’s presidency of the G20 and COP30
After not following the president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) At the civic-military parade in Brasilia to celebrate Brazil’s Independence Day, First Lady Janja Lula da Silva posted photos of her meeting with the sheika Mozah bint Nasserone of the 3 wives of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa, former Emir of Qatar.
The meeting was held this Sunday (8.Sep.2024) at Education City, an educational center in Al Rayyan, in the metropolitan region of Doha, the Qatari capital.
At the meeting, the Brazilian First Lady and Sheikha Moza bint Naser discussed their work in favor of the right to education, and Brazil’s presidency of the G20 and COP 30. Moza is the president of the Qatar Foundation, an NGO focused on education, science and community development. The Brazilian ambassador to Qatar, Marcelo Dantas, was also present.
Janja’s trip to Qatar meant that she was not at the traditional open parade in the presidential Rolls Royce alongside Lula during Brazil’s Independence celebrations on Saturday (7.Sep).
On Monday (September 9), she will participate in the 5th International Day to Protect Education from Attack Celebration, also in Doha. The event is organized by the organization Education Above All. Janja will speak on the panel “Education in Danger: The Human Cost of War”.
According to the First Lady’s office, she was invited “in recognition of the active voice in relation to the conflict in the Gaza Strip and its consequences for the civilian population, especially children and women”. Its performance in favor of the Sustainable Development Goals was also considered.
“Janja agreed to speak at the event, believing it to be an important moment to talk about the issue and foster international solidarity with children around the world who live in contexts of armed conflict, and whose education and future are impacted”says a note from the press office.
