Afghanistan Evacuations from Afghanistan to Finland continue – 37 people arrived in the country on Thursday

In August 2021, the Government decided to evacuate a total of 298 people to Finland.

To Finland 37 people arrived from Afghanistan on Thursday night as the Finnish evacuation operation continued. In addition, a dozen people have been evacuated from Afghanistan and will arrive in Finland in the coming weeks, according to a recent press release from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

The group that arrived in Finland consisted of both former employees of the Embassy of Finland in Kabul and their families and Finns covered by the Consular Services Act. The group also included foreigners living permanently in Finland who have been trying to leave Afghanistan since last August.

Last week, the people moved from Afghanistan to Pakistan and from there on to Finland via Germany.

In an evacuation operation The group was assisted by a consular mission sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which cooperated with the Pakistani authorities and the German, Dutch and Nordic missions in Islamabad. The above-mentioned countries are also evacuating their own aid recipients through Pakistan.

The implementation of the Government’s evacuation decisions in Afghanistan in August 2021 with regard to former embassy staff is coming to an end. Work is still ongoing on consular assistants still in the country. The Government decided to evacuate a total of 298 people to Finland.
