“Dawn dawns at the UAS Center of Excellence, CEUS in Huelva (Spain). The sun has barely risen and our team has already prepared a Tarshish to take off. It is a privilege to be there, with the cold and silence of the morning, in the middle of an overwhelming nature and with a magnificent UAS in front of you ready to fulfill its mission.” It is a message from yesterday on social networks from the team of the Aertec aeronautics minutes before flying a state-of-the-art drone over Doñana as part of the Ministry of Defense’s Rapaz mission. Just a few days have passed since President Pedro Sánchez inaugurated the CEUS, and the machines designed and manufactured by Aetec have had the honor. brand new with 100% European technology, “the most modern and advanced facility in Europe for testing unmanned systems.” Another milestone for the Malaga company, which flies soaring with its aircraft. after billing 34 million euros last yearwith a growth of around 20% and a new focus now focused on manufacturing, as well as engineering and airports.
The company founded in 1997 by engineers Antonio Gómez-Guillamón and Vicente Padilla -grandsons of a pioneer of aeronautics in Spain, General Félix Gómez-Guillamón- has undertaken an organic reorganization this year to channel that growth: has created the subsidiary Aertec Defense & Aerial Systemsto which I transferred knowledge, contracts and clients to cover the European and international market in high-performance unmanned aerial systems and autonomous systems technologies in the dual field. The official signing of the deeds at the notary took place on September 18, in Malaga.
The new company has its headquarters in Málaga TechPark, although its Development Center and Final Assembly Line (FAL) is in the Aerospace Technology Park of Seville, Aerópolis. These facilities have been expanded and are now fully operational to increase the production of the Tarsis. and prepare a new location in Galicia for the development of civil use cases such as Maritime Rescue, fire fighting and environmental observation.
The Tarshish
All changes revolve around Tarsis drones, with use cases already mature and others in development. “UAS of Spanish technology most advanced in its class“, they assure. Its current version for operation on short and unprepared runways, as well as the version currently under development for vertical takeoff and landing, with hybrid propulsion, have been conceived for different applications in the military and civil field.
Tarsis Systems have technology ATOL (Automatic Take Off and Landing) and a complete guidance, navigation and control system, based on Aertec’s own developments. They also integrate other patents and developments of the company in secure communications, weapons integration, laser target designation, backup satellite link, dual and multispectral sensors or communications payloads or emergency support applications.
The Tarshish Ishtar (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Location and Reconnaissance), are high-end class I, light tactical UAS, with the capacity to integrate payload up to 15 kg and flight autonomy up to 12 hours, which enables multiple configurations and adaptability to very demanding operating environments.
The W version with a payload capacity of up to 30 kg, and integration of 3 kg FOX missiles, a product of the same company, are currently in the development phase in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense.
Subsidiary in Colombia
Also on an organic level, Aertec has strengthened its presence in Latin America with the opening of a new subsidiary in Colombia, with commercial headquarters in Bogotá. In the region, the company has opened a niche both in the unmanned aerial systems segment, mainly in the Defense branch, and in the airport sector.
In Colombia he has already worked for both government entities (Aerocivil, ANI, CIAC, Enterritorio…) and for private entities (airport concessionaires, promoters) and in projects of both airside and landside infrastructure.
The company achieved its first contract in Colombia in 2013and currently has more than twenty references in this country in consulting, planning and design of airports.
As the head of Aertec’s Airports division points out, Carlos Berenguer“this expansion consolidates our presence in a key region such as Latin America, with which we are strongly committed.”
Global presence
The company has offices in United Kingdom, Germany, Colombia, United States and Abu Dhabidevelops projects in 40 countries of the 5 continents, and has a presence in some of the main world aeronautical programs. It is a strategic supplier of Airbus and participate in the project Combat Air System (FCAS)the military fighter that Spain, France and Germany are jointly developing.
In addition, he has carried out work in more than 160 international airports. It was their initial business and still represents practically half of the activity.
“Fuerteventura Airport gave us the first opportunity to develop a national project in 2000 and just one year later we obtained our first international contract with Luton Airport, in the United Kingdom. This coincided with the first project for the Airbus Group, which gave rise to the creation of our aerospace divisionwhich until now has not stopped growing, already representing half of our activity,” they say at Airtec.
“We have a team of more than 600 professionals and a turnover of more than 34 million euros in the last year,” the company explains.
