Around 160 thousand people renegotiated their debts through Desenrola Fies, out of a total of 1.2 million with late installments
Only 1 in 10 students who defaulted on Fies (Student Financing Fund) joined the debt renegotiation program. In total, around 1.2 million people are late on their financing installments.
The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, appealed to students to use Desenrola Fies. The program offers discounts of 77% to 99% on debt and the possibility of a full interest reduction.
Requests for renegotiation or simulation must be made at the bank where the student signed the contract: Banco do Brasil or Caixa Econômica Federal. And they are available virtually, through the institutions' applications. The deadline to request renegotiation is May 31st.
According to the Ministry of Education, around 160 thousand people renegotiated their debts through the government program. The agreements reached more than R$7.5 billion.
The action targets students with debts under contracts signed until 2017, in the payment phase and with installments late until June 30 of last year.
