NEW YORK (Reuters) – Actor Jonathan Majors was arrested in New York City this weekend on charges of physical assault and harassment, prompting the U.S. Army to pull down posters featuring the “Creed III” star.
Majors, who recently presented an Oscar award alongside Michael B. Jordan, with whom he stars in “Creed III,” was arrested Saturday morning in Manhattan over a domestic dispute, according to police and his defense attorney.
A 30-year-old woman suffered minor head and neck injuries and was taken to the hospital in stable condition, the New York Police Department said.
Majors, 33, appeared in court to hear the prosecution on Saturday and was released without bail.
He was accused of striking the woman’s face with an open hand, causing a laceration behind her ear, and of grabbing her hand and neck, resulting in bruising.
Priya Chaudhry, Majors’ defense attorney, said in a statement that Majors is innocent and was “probably the victim in an altercation with a woman he knows.”
She said the episode took place in a vehicle, and that the driver who witnessed the scene will help clear Majors. She also said the woman, who has not been publicly identified, provided two written statements “retracting these allegations”.
