The actor Gabriel Guevara, son of the model and actress Marlène Mourreau, was arrested this Saturday in Venice for an alleged crime of sexual assault. Apparently, the 22-year-old man had an international arrest warrant since the alleged sexual assault would have been committed on French territory, although it was not specified when it occurred.
The leading actor in the hit ‘Is it my fault?’ he was in the Italian city of Lido because he was presenting the film and, furthermore, he had been recognized with the Filming Italy International Award for Best Young Generation Film.
According to the newspaper La Repubblica, after hearing the news, the organization of the Filming Italy Award for Best Film has suspended any recognition as a precaution, waiting for the nature of the facts to be clarified and with full confidence “that justice will run its course.”
Likewise, the Venice Biennale has distanced itself from the actor, specifying in a statement that the presence of Gabriel Guevara in Venice “was not linked to any activity or production of the 80th Venice International Film Festival.”
The arrest has been described as “a legal aberration without any sense” by the actor’s lawyer, Pedro Fernández González, who follows the case from Madrid. “He has been retained, not arrested,” says the lawyer. He is a Spanish citizen who is being claimed for a process from which he has already been acquitted here with all justification and merit and that this order has been maintained, I don’t even know how why, it is incomprehensible, I think it will be resolved very quickly, ” it states.
As the lawyer explains, the hearing of the case had been scheduled for this morning, so he hopes, at noon on Monday, that his defendant “does not even go to trial.” “If it is that what they accuse him of, is past, acquitted and prescribed, it is a totally administrative matter of an order that has been pending, we do not understand how or why – he insists -, and it has given rise to an irregular process, I don’t know how illegal it is, but it is irregular”, details the lawyer for the Hereda Group.
Fernández González has been visibly annoyed by what was published in the Italian media, “implying that he has raped someone in Venice, and of course, if that is what is said, which is a total lie, it does a lot of damage to this kid” , who is currently “quite” affected.
The sexual assault case for which he was accused and later acquitted took place nine years ago, when Guevara was 13, due to a complaint from a cousin “who got angry with him,” in the words of the lawyer. For all these reasons, the lawyer hopes that “he will be released shortly, once the error is verified in a retention that we understand to be irregular.”
