Senator Tammy Baldwin sends letter to Activision CEO.
The United States Senator Tammy Baldwin sent a letter to the CEO of Activision, Bobby Kotickurging him to “negotiate in good faith with workers and suspend any attempts to undermine employees’ legal right to form a union and bargain collectively” in the future.
Throughout Baldwin’s letter – a copy of which was recently obtained from the Washington Post – the senator repeatedly asks Kotick not to intervene with the ongoing attempt to organize a Raven Software. Baldwin also warned Kotick that “will closely monitor the proceedings at the National Labor Relations Board and Raven SoftwareBaldwin also sent a copy of the letter to the CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella.
Raven Software’s push for unionization comes after the sudden farewell of 12 team members late last year. The incident triggered a month-long strike at the company, with protesters calling on Activision to offer more transparency and healthier working conditions to its workers. Since then, several members of the Raven Software team have formally initiated the process of creating a union, writing on social media: “By joining together we can ensure that our message further reaches its goal and is more effectiveThe group currently has 34 members and, if successful, could become one of the top video game industry syndicates in North America.
Baldwin isn’t the only person who has put Kotick under close scrutiny right now. It was recently revealed that there are several ways the CEO could ditch Activision Blizzard with a large sum of money if he were to leave after Microsoft acquires the company. Both Activision and Kotick himself have been targeted for numerous allegations of misconduct, abuse, harassment, and even death threats.
