Ciudad Juarez.- With the Climate Change Regulation for the Municipality of Juárez that was approved by the City Council in its last ordinary session, actions are established to address risks and natural disasters derived from change, announced the Municipal Resilience Coordinator, Verónica González Sepúlveda. In addition, agencies are involved to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases, she noted. “The regulation obliges not only agencies, but also other actors to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases, but also to see how we can adapt to adverse weather conditions, whether it be cold or extreme heat,” she mentioned. She said that some of the immediate action mechanisms that are established are in case of floods and frost. “That we have the capacity as a Municipality to protect vulnerable communities and make protocols to attend to certain communities,” she said. She added that with the regulation, funds will also be sought for its dissemination and thus permeate the information on action in disaster issues throughout society. He said that the municipal departments involved in these actions are the Directorate of Ecology, Civil Protection, Public Services and Urban Development. González Sepúlveda said that the regulation did not exist in the city. The document will provide the municipal authorities, especially the Security, Rescue and Fire departments, with the necessary elements to deal with natural events such as floods, snowfalls and frosts, among others that endanger the community. The regulation can be modified according to the needs and climate changes that occur in this city, he said. The document was approved by the City Council in the last session of the current administration, on August 28, and its publication in the Municipal Gazette is pending. (Araly Castañón)
