The man from Mazarron receives the ‘Protagonista de la Moto 2021’ award, awarded by the specialized press and won by Ana Carrasco in 2018
The Mazarron rider Pedro Acosta has received the ‘Protagonist of the Moto 2021’ award, which is awarded by the specialized motorcycling press. The fifth edition of this award adds the name of the young Murcian talent to the previous winners of this trophy: Ángel Nieto, Ceheginera Ana Carrasco (in 2018), Jorge Prado and Joan Mir (last year). Edro Acosta has been the great sensation of the 2021 season.
The nominees were, in addition to Pedro Acosta, Jordi Torres, César Rojo, Valentino Rossi, Josep García, the ANESDOR association, Toni Bou, KM Solidarity and Laia Sanz. The Puerto de Mazarrón rider, who was crowned Moto3 champion at just 17 years old, was grateful for the distinction. «It is a pride to get this trophy that surely many more riders would like to have, and especially seeing who has achieved it in previous editions. When they give you an award that has been received by people of such renown, it only remains to try to put ourselves on the same level, “he says.
«In my first year in Moto2 I don’t have any pressure. The idea is to go for the title in 2023 », confesses the Moto3 champion
Acosta is one of the most special talents that world motorcycling has given in recent years. In 2022 he will make the leap to Moto2, where he hopes to continue breaking records. I’m obsessed with winning. It is the only grace to be here. The day I go out to fight for a fifth place, we’d better go home and start fishing with my father », confesses the man from Mazarron in a new documentary released by the DAZN platform.
Tension and victories
“What I like the most about riding a racing motorcycle is the tension of being on a grid, of feeling the pressure,” he continues in ‘Yo, Piloto: Minds Radicales’, a documentary in which several riders analyze how They are affected psychologically by the pressure during the big prizes. “What I enjoy the most is overtaking to the limit, but to win. I can tell you that I’m happy when I’m fifth, but that’s a lie. Here the only one who has fun is the one who wins, ”he insists.
About his new adventure in Moto2, Acosta indicates that «now everything changes, you notice that you have more power when you give gas and that it has more bass, not like the Moto3 that you always have to carry on top. The most important thing will be to know how to manage tire wear, as I have not done a race simulation yet.
At the moment, he is not thinking about MotoGP. “We’ll see what happens. The idea is to spend two years in Moto2 and try to fight for the title in the second. The first has to be to learn. I have no pressure and I must be able to learn in a new category, with a new bike and in races that are different.
