A sturdy laptop that does not give up on design and lightness: this is the idea around which Acer’s Enduro Urban N3 was built, a sophisticated looking laptop that resists shocks, water (IP53 certified) and dust. At 1.8 kilos, the Enduro is lighter than any other 14-inch rugged PC, so much so it seems more like any 15-inch laptop, from which it differs only for the wider screen frames. The display is full HD, and in the configuration we tested is mounted an 11th generation Intel i5 processor, with 8GB of RAM. The computer is reinforced at the corners to absorb drops, and the ports are liquid-proof: we find an HDMI 2.0, a USB-A 3.0, a USB-C with Tunderbolt 4 and Display Port, 3.5 mm audio port and reader SD card. On the sides we find another USB-A port and the Kensington Lock. The built-in webcam is 720p and the quality isn’t great, but it serves its purpose. The computer leaves user access for internal components, allowing you to reach, repair and modify battery, SODIMM slot, WLAN module and M.2 PCIe3 hard disk. The display does not have a particularly high resolution stopping at 1080, but it has an excellent visibility in sunlight that has always seemed to us to match the “nomadic” nature of the product. The screen reaches a peak of 450 nits of brightness, more than enough to see it well even outside.
Enduro N3 is configurable with processors Intel Tiger Lake, choice of a Core i5 1135G7 or a Core i7 1165G7, flanked by 8 / 16GB of DDR4 RAM (expandable to 32GB), up to 1TB of storage on PCIe SSD drives and Nvidia GeForce MX330 graphics. From the point of view of performance, the new Enduro has always proved to be snappy and satisfying, fast at the right point even in some more demanding tasks such as video editing. The flash memory allows a fast writing speed and apps open quickly. The computer still manages to run video games at a reasonable sectarian, should you be interested in using it as a gaming machine as well. The battery maintained a good performance during use, generally reaching a full day of work before needing to be recharged, and it takes about an hour and a half to get from zero to one hundred. Any USB-C charger can also be used for charging.
With prices starting at 999 euros, the Acer Enduro N3 is not suitable for those looking only for sophisticated designs and materials from a laptop, but it is great for those who work outdoors in situations that could damage the laptop. The possibility of having a light but at the same time resistant computer with you puts it halfway between a real rugged and an ultrabook, and if it somehow falls behind on the appearance and on the “only” HD screen with very thick bezels , on the other hand it was a constructive choice functional to its particular product range. Processor, memory and hard drive are snappy and fast, and there really isn’t any compromise here. A functional product that will make those who are always on the move happy.
