The Abu Dhabi Center for Public Health issued the Public Health and Preventive Health System in Abu Dhabi, which represents the main pillar that will contribute to achieving the center’s vision and goals towards a healthy and safe society.
The system defines the main responsibilities of the center and the authorities concerned with managing aspects related to public health and preventive health in Abu Dhabi.
The system includes eight main chapters, namely communicable and non-communicable diseases, occupational health and safety, environmental health and community health, in addition to information, research, reports, awareness and education programs, emergencies and crises related to public health.
The Abu Dhabi Center for Public Health, in cooperation with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, will prepare and develop decisions, policies, circulars, guides and instructions to meet the requirements of the public health system and health prevention in Abu Dhabi.
His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Hamed, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, said, “Under the directives of the wise leadership, which has put the health and safety of community members at the top of the list of priorities, we have moved forward since the establishment of the Abu Dhabi Center for Public Health, which came at a pivotal stage in the path of the health care sector in Abu Dhabi in strengthening the status of the public health sector in Abu Dhabi.” The emirate as a leading destination for healthcare in the region and the world.
He added, under the directives of the Abu Dhabi Government, that the Abu Dhabi Public Health System was issued to constitute a qualitative addition to the health care system in the emirate.
His Excellency continued: “The system document will support the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Center for Public Health in achieving the leadership’s vision and its keenness to reach a healthy and safe society, as it is an important regulatory document for all public health activities and works in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and it has been prepared in accordance with international best practices in the field of public health and to enjoy the flexibility that enables it In keeping pace with various changes in the health sector, this system is a reflection of the directives of our wise leadership in ensuring the health and safety of everyone living in the UAE, as we move forward today in promoting preventive and curative health, looking forward to continuing to consolidate Abu Dhabi’s position in health care in various regional and global forums.”
For his part, His Excellency Matar Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Center for Public Health, said: “This system comes as a complement to the wise decision issued by our wise leadership to establish the center in 2019, as the Abu Dhabi Public Health System is the document that sets the regulatory framework for public health activities in the emirate.. Pointing out that starting the implementation of the public health and preventive health system at the level of the emirate is a unique and distinct experience at the level of the region and is a milestone that pushes us to move forward in the process of development and progress and most importantly the important positive return from the application of the system in terms of improving the level of public health in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in all areas of public health.
Al Nuaimi added: “The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the capabilities of the UAE and its flexibility in applying the best exceptional measures related to public health and preventive health. In 2022, we focus on investing this success that characterized the health sector in order to move forward at a faster pace to achieve the aspirations of the leadership and residents of the emirate. We aim to contribute to Creating a healthy and educated society that enjoys health and safety in the various locations and environments in which it is located.The Abu Dhabi Public Health System document will clarify the obligations and guidelines for government and private agencies, health sector institutions and community members, which contributes to improving the level of public health in the community and this will be reflected in many local indicators The mission that the government aspires to achieve in the coming years, and the application of the system will contribute to supporting the public health indicators in the country, and thus improving the country’s ranking at the global level.”
The chapter “Communicable Diseases” of the new system highlights all the requirements necessary to address infectious diseases and covers aspects related to monitoring, investigation, surveillance and vaccinations necessary to ensure the containment and outbreak of infectious diseases and their control. The global level As for the chapter on non-communicable diseases, it focuses on identifying and updating the lists of these diseases and the priorities for dealing with them based on statistics, local and global data, and the latest developments.
The resolution defines the responsibilities of employers and workers in the field of occupational health and safety in the public and private sectors, with a focus on the importance of identifying the risks arising from various activities in the workplace, evaluating and reducing their risks, as well as the need to promote a culture of occupational health and safety. The resolution also contributes to defining standards and requirements to protect human health and safety. From occupational and environmental risks by evaluating the health effects of potential risks and causing injuries to cases and sources of environmental pollution and protecting community members from the health effects of environmental pollution and wrong environmental practices.
The chapter “Community Health” covers all aspects related to family health and school health in addition to the health of individuals and focuses on the importance of medical and preventive examinations for different age groups, especially pregnant mothers and newborns. This chapter is also concerned with the importance of educating community members on all programs that affect their health.
The Abu Dhabi Center for Public Health is committed to investing in innovation and smart data and its applications, as the document included an entire chapter on this topic for the importance of identifying areas of research and data management related to public and preventive health and categorizing them according to priority.
The document highlighted the importance of developing and implementing education and awareness programmes, unifying messages and priorities in this field, and the need to prepare for emergency situations such as the outbreak of pandemics and epidemics.
