The Abu Dhabi City Municipality, affiliated to the Department of Municipalities and Transport, carried out the demolition and removal of 18 abandoned buildings during the past year, compared to eight buildings that were demolished during 2020, and the removal of distortions of the public appearance was carried out in 12 locations on Abu Dhabi Island.
The municipality stated that these measures are within the framework of the municipality’s endeavor to preserve the general appearance of the buildings, and continuous communication with the owners of abandoned and neglected buildings in Abu Dhabi and its suburbs, urging them to take corrective measures regarding these buildings, and to cooperate with the municipality and the competent authorities to settle the conditions of buildings that distort the general appearance of the city. In addition to its danger of polluting the environment, causing inconvenience to the population, being a source of health hazards, and threatening the safety of those living next to it.
She added that it deals with these processes in a flexible manner, starting with monitoring the building, communicating with and educating the owners of the buildings, to issuing demolition and removal decisions.
She stressed that the demolition work during 2021 was characterized by coordination between the concerned departments to quickly implement all monitoring procedures, notify owners, issue demolition decisions, and issue the necessary permits to carry out removal work in record time.
