The 112 of the Valencian Community evacuated this Saturday a building in Chiva, Valencia), due to carbon monoxide poisoning during cleaning work of the neighbors of the havoc caused by DANA in this area.
The building is located in the Ramón y Cajal Avenue in Chiva and 112 has requested the assistance of the Emergency Information and Coordination Center (Cicu), the body that coordinates health emergency resources to respond to the health demands of 112.
The official report from the emergency services has detailed the following:
«At 2 p.m. the intervention of the CICU was requested to assist several people poisoned by carbon monoxide in the garage of a building in Chiva. The CICU has mobilized two SAMU units, two SVB units and a medical helicopter. In addition, primary care medical teams from the municipality have attended.
«In total there have been 19 people assisted, one of them a man with a seizure who has been transferred in a stable condition in a BLS unit to the Manises hospital. Another seven people have been transferred to the same hospital in a SAMU unit, the two BLS units and a BLS unit of the EMU. The remaining 11 people travel by their own means,” they said.
Recommendations for rescue and cleanup efforts
The Ministry of Health of the Generalitat Valenciana issued a statement this morning with a series of recommendations regarding the cleaning work.
Among them, it reported that, to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, pressure washing machines and portable generators that run on gasoline, diesel, propane or coal-burning equipment should be used at a distance of “at least 5 meters from any door, window or ventilation grille” and never inside the home.
