Allegedly, thousands of people have demonstrated this morning in Ripoll against the extreme dret and what they consider “persecution of dissidents”“which carries out the municipal government, integrated alone by Catalan Alliance and which Sílvia Orriols encapsulates. The protest had been called for La Metxa popular clubwhich has just received an order to defund the space on behalf of the city council. The organizers have reached 1,500 attendees, while the Urban Guard has reached 300.
The mobilization had the motto “A l’extrema dreta, ni aigua”, and there were slogans such as “against feixisme, direct action” or “Catalan Alliance, outside of Ripoll“The protesters crossed the entire Finnish municipality on foot to Pla de la Devesa, with the mobilization ending with the reading of the manifesto.
“The house has been active since 2016 and there has been no problem until the arrival of the extreme right to the government, which is trying to control it because it is a space with political activities that confront the various ideas,” said the member of the popular club La Metxa Jordi Hostench.
The club has also supported the support of organizations such as Òmnium Cultural, entities of the Independentist Left – including various members of the CUP -, the Socialist Youth Organization, the CGT and hundreds of clubs and athenaeums of the Xarxa de Casals i Ateneus dels Catalan Countries.
Beyond the situation of La Metxa, in the manifesto they have also denounced other questions, such as what they consider “arbitrary fines” for people critical of the policies of the government of the formation of extreme right. Them through which it is possible to hinder municipal registrationthe promotion of Islamophobia and racism or the withdrawal of youth, social and community educational resources are other aspects that have been denounced.
