Madrid criticizes Rome over abortion. And Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni responds in kind. “Several times I have listened to foreign ministers talk about internal Italian issues without knowing the facts. Normally when you are ignorant on a topic you must at least have the good manners not to give lessons“, said the prime minister, replying in Brussels to the criticisms of the Spanish minister Ana Redondo on the presence of pro-life representatives in Italian clinics.
What the Spanish minister said
“Allowing organized pressure against women who want to terminate a pregnancy means undermining a right recognized by law. It is the strategy of the far right: threatening to take away rights, to hinder equality between women and men”, he wrote on X Redondo.
“Abortion is a fundamental right of all women, it is a human right, and is part of our right to health”, “with this decision the Italian government is therefore putting at risk the lives and safety of women, who are more than half the population,” echoed former Spanish Equality Minister Irene Montero.
