Tesla electric cars are, today, the best known on the market. The company run by Elon Musk has managed to expand electrification to all types of customers thanks to vehicles such as the Model 3 or the Model Y. However, the firm also has room for higher-end vehicles and even those considered ‘sports’. Until the arrival of the Tesla Roadster, the most advanced car within the brand is the Model S Plaidwith spectacular acceleration figures. However, not all that glitters within the brand is gold.
It has been the youtuber Kyle Connerfrom the channel Out of Spec Reviewswho has made public the numbers of his Tesla Model S Plaid through his official profile of (formerly Twitter). His observation and main complaint is the notable depreciation that the car is suffering from its purchase to its current market value.
This Tesla Model S Plaid loses 3 euros every 2 kilometers
This aforementioned youtuber acquired his electric sports sedan in 2022 for a price of $140,940. In just over two years, the electric car has traveled a total of 60,000 kilometers. During an appraisal at the brand itself, Conner complained that Tesla offered him a trade-in value of $46,400.
In this way, the Model S Plaid would have been depreciated a total of $95,000 in its life period. With this data in hand, Conner did a simple calculation in which he found that his Tesla Model S Plaid depreciated specifically by an average of 3 euros every 2 kilometers tours.
However, despite this feeling of economic loss for this well-known YouTuber, the truth is that there are several factors for this devaluation. The first and possibly the most important is the aggressive pricing policy presented by Tesla in recent months with its vehicles, where fluctuations in its rates are frequent, as well as the integration of significant discounts. Precisely about this, Conner makes a similarity: “Imagine buying jeans for 50 euros and seeing them on sale the following week for 40 euros.”

However, there are other reasons why this ‘reduction’ in its cost has occurred. Another is the continuous updating that electric cars experience, especially in terms of their own components. It is also the longevity itself and the use that has been given to its battery, which can directly influence this aspect.
Conner assures that “We often overlook the true cost of car ownership.. Beyond the initial purchase price, it is essential to take into account depreciation over time.”
Let us remember that the Tesla Model S Plaid is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.1 seconds thanks to its power of no less than 1,020 HP. Its starting price in Spain is 107,990 euros, without including aid or discounts that may be included in this total.
