The President Sergio Mattarella with his daughter Laura at the first of La Scala (Lapresse)
Laura Mattarella, the First Lady of the Quirinale
A woman at the Quirinale? It has been talked about a lot, but in the end the only one will still be her: Laura Mattarelladaughter of Sergio e “Alternate consort” from 3 February 2015, when his father was first elected to the Presidency of the Republic. The diplomatic protocol provides that next to the Head of State there is a “First Lady”, so as to be able to welcome together foreign leaders accompanied by their respective wives and in any case accompany him on official visits. And if the President doesn’t have a wife, the role passes to the daughter. It is not the first time that she has happened: previously the task fell to Ernestina, daughter of Giuseppe Saragatand to Marianna, daughter of Oscar Luigi Scalfaro.
Sergio Mattarella’s wife (sister of Piersanti’s)
Mattarella is a widower of Marisa Chiazzesedaughter of the academician Lauro Chiazzesejurist and former Rector of the University of Palermo, as well as sister of Irma Chiazzesewife of Piersanti MattarellaSergio’s brother killed by the mafia in 1980. Marisa died of a tumor in 2012, leaving her husband and three children born of their marriage: Francesco, Bernardo Giorgio and indeed Laura. If the first is reserved and little is known about him, Bernardo Giorgio bears the name of his grandfather, who was a minister on several occasions, is full professor of Administrative Law at the Luiss Guido Carli University and was head of the Department of Civil Service at the President of the Council of Ministers.
A discreet presence next to the President
Laura, born in 1967, is also a lawyer, specializing in the administrative branch. Very similar to her mother, but with the same blue eyes as her father, she is married to Cosimo Comelladirector of the Department of digital technologies and information security of the Privacy Guarantor with whom he had three children: Manfredi, Maria Chiara And Constance. Described as a woman with a strong character, she is also extraordinarily discreet and sparing in interviews. Her is a very institutional and elegant aplomb, which earned her the admiration of the delegations she received with her father during her first seven years at the Quirinale. However, her confidentiality does not denote a secondary role, on the contrary: she seems to be very influential in the choices of her father and also in the choice of the house in Parioli it seems that it was decisive. Then, however, the reason of state led to a change of plans, but the President will enjoy it at least on weekends.
