In this Una Semana en El Mundo program we ask ourselves who benefits from the escalation in the Middle East after the recent crossed attacks between Israel and Iran. In the early hours of this Friday, April 19, as confirmed by American sources, Israel directed an air attack against the Iranian province of Isfahan: center of military bases, weapons and nuclear development. However, Tehran does not report damage or announce retaliation.
In the midst of international calls for containment, we ask ourselves: Does the Israeli response to the attack launched by Iran last Saturday reach this point? An attack that was at the same time a retaliation against Israel for the deadly bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1. Is anyone interested in an escalation of war?
In addition, we will briefly comment on what is at stake in the macro-elections of the most populous country in the world: India. And we analyze the impact on the US campaign of the start of the first criminal trial against Donald Trump.
For the analysis we have Ofer Laszewicki, journalist and analyst and former correspondent in Israel and Palestine; with Catalina Gómez Ángel, correspondent of 'France 24' in Iran, and with Mauricio Jaramillo Jassir, director of the “In context” program of 'Señal Colombia', international analyst and professor of International Relations at the Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá.
