After three very complicated seasons, ElPozo Murcia has once again reached three figures for goals scored in the regular league, and has four games left to expand that statistic. The charcuteros receive Mallorca (fifth) and Santa Coloma (eighth) at home and will face Ribera Navarra (fourteenth) and Manzanares (seventh) away. In the first round, the Murcians scored six goals against Mallorca and Manzanares, and two against Santa Coloma and Ribera Navarra.
Since they won the title in the now distant 2009-10 season, scoring 134 goals in the league and 32 in the playoff, they have only finished three more times as top scorers in the league championship. It was in 2010-11 with 138 goals, in 2011-12 with 153 goals and in 2014-15, when they tied with Inter Movistar with 152 goals scored. They were other times, other rules and another indoor football. There were more goals and more spectacle.
Furthermore, in 2009-10 ElPozo had the Brazilian Wilde Gomes as the top scorer of that season, with 47 goals. Two years later, Esquerdinha added 46 goals in the regular season. Since then, the Murcia team has not seen any player at the top of the scoring list nor has it been the top scorer since 2015. This season, Brazilian Marcel has the trigger ready, as he has 26 goals and leads the list of scorers. He is a clear candidate to end up being the top scorer.
The Murcian team has not been the top scorer for 9 seasons and their last top scorer was Esquerdinha in 2012
Of the last eight seasons, the Murcia team has exceeded a hundred goals in five of them (130 in 2015-16, 148 in 2016-17, 131 in 2017-18, 122 in 2018-19 and 108 in 2020-21). In the other three seasons they were close to 100 goals (75 in 2019-20, which was the year of Covid and the championship was paralyzed seven games from the end, 87 in 21-22 and 92 last year ).
Esquerdinha and Raúl Campos
After Esquerdinha's 46 goals in the 2011-12 campaign, ElPozo has not seen similar figures from one of its players. Not even close. The one who was closest to the Brazilian was Raúl Campos, with 33 goals in the 2014-15 season. It must be remembered, however, that now fewer goals are scored in all teams and that the goals are distributed more among the squads. In fact, ElPozo has become more solid in attack in recent campaigns, since the goals are better distributed. For example, last season up to five players reached or exceeded ten goals: Dario Gil and Taynan scored 10; Bruno Taffy, 11;, Gadeia and Rafa Santos, 12, while the top scorer was, once again, Marcel with 14 goals.
This year the charcuteros have taken a step forward. It's not just Marcel's 26. Gadeia's 14, Nyyazov's 11 and Rafa Santos' 10 also stand out. It is obvious that if Dani Martínez's boys want to aspire to finish first, they must follow this scoring line, in addition to being tough at the back, where they are the third in the fewest goals conceded, with 66.
