Early this morning, a train carrying dangerous goods, specifically argon gas, derailed at the Matillas station (Guadalajara). The Castilla-La Mancha service 112 received the notice at 6:20 a.m.
It has been necessary to cut the road in both directions and also the GU-157 provincial highway that connects with Cendejas de la Torre due to the presence of remains of the accident convoy, as reported by service 112. According to the first data, there are no personal injuries and the wagons transporting the argon do not appear to have been affected.
Both the Civil Guard and firefighters from Sigüenza Park have traveled to the scene. A support ambulance has also been enabled, whose action has not been necessary.
According to Adif data, circulation between the towns of Baides and Matillas on the Madrid-Grisén conventional gauge line is interrupted, due to the departure of several axles of a freight train. The accident occurred at six in the morning, a freight train leaving the multi-axle track. Technical resources deployed to the area are working to remove the train and clear the track. As soon as the road is cleared, its condition will be analyzed to evaluate any damage and, where appropriate, repair it, as Adif explained to elDiario.es Castilla-La Mancha.
The incident has been recorded on the conventional railway line but does not affect the Madrid-Barcelona High Speed line, which is operating normally.
RENFE has established an alternative transportation plan with road transfers between Jadraque and Sigüenza.
The accident has caused confusion, unrest and expectation among the few residents who live in winter in the small municipality. “It is confirmed that there is no leak,” its mayor, José Luis Gordon (PP), told Europa Press, who explained that although there have been several cars that have derailed between the station and the level crossing, track in which are now “completely crossed”, has stressed that none of these were carrying dangerous merchandise and that those who were carrying it “are found intact.”
As for the population, the mayor explains that the neighbors are calmer because the City Council quickly informed them of what happened and, although they were initially advised not to approach the area, he recognizes that curiosity has already led to Some have shown up in the vicinity, where “everything is controlled,” he stressed.
“The action by the ADIF and emergency personnel services has been quick and effective,” says the mayor, who recalls that, however, for the moment, the train line is still affected.
