An earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale struck Davao Occidental province in the southern Philippines early Tuesday morning, according to what the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology announced.
The institute said that the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 76 kilometers and about 119 kilometers southeast of Sarangani Island in the municipality of Sarangani.
The institute expected that the earthquake would cause aftershocks, but it would not pose a tsunami threat. There were no reports of injuries or material losses.
