The socialist deputy Miguel Ortega suffered an accident this Tuesday while driving on the A30 highway when a driver who was driving drunk and in the wrong direction crashed into his vehicle. As socialist sources have confirmed to elDiario.es Region of Murcia, the deputy has been injured but his condition does not seem to be serious.
The Socialist Party of the Region of Murcia has reported that the surgical intervention performed on Miguel Ortega, general secretary of Socialist Youth in the Region of Murcia and regional deputy, after suffering the traffic accident on Tuesday morning “went well.” ”.
Miguel Ortega was on his way to the Regional Assembly, which has its headquarters in Cartagena, when he was a victim of the accident. The deputy was in charge of defending this Tuesday a motion that had to be withdrawn. “They are operating on him at the moment because they have detected blood loss,” socialist sources confirmed mid-morning; “They are going to see where it comes from to solve it but in principle, the vital signs are stable, so it does not seem to be serious.”
His party colleagues wanted to thank the Civil Guard and the rest of the professionals who treated him, both at the scene of the accident and at the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital, for “their fast and magnificent work.”
The general secretary of the Murcian socialists, Pepe Vélez, immediately went to the hospital to accompany the family of deputy Miguel Ortega. Through a message that they have transmitted to the media, from the PSOE of the Region “they have thanked the interest in the state of health of the colleague and the concern that they have conveyed to us throughout the morning.”
The driver – according to sources consulted by the Civil Guard – was traveling in the opposite direction and has tested positive for alcohol and THC (the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis). The man is – under police custody – at the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital, where deputy Miguel Ortega is also being operated on.
Sources from the Emergency Coordination Center have reported that around 9:00 a.m. 112 received more than 40 calls warning that a car was traveling on the A30, between Murcia and Cartagena, in the opposite direction. The accident took place at kilometer 161 and the crash was head-on.
Firefighters from the Murcia City Council’s Fire Fighting and Rescue Service, the Civil Guard and two ambulances with paramedics from the Health Emergencies and Emergencies Management 061 have traveled to the scene of the collision.
The injured have been able to get out of the vehicles on their own, and have been transferred to the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital. The driver who allegedly caused the accident is in serious condition.
