With the arrival of the new Copilot+ PCs based on Arm chips, led by Microsoft’s Surface, the question arises: can I play my favorite games on these devices? Of course, during the presentation we have already seen some examples, such as Baldur’s Gate 3 and Control, but now we have a broader spectrum of games.
This is thanks to the website WorksOnWoA.com, which catalogs game compatibility on Surface Laptops and other devices with Snapdragon So far it seems that 1,481 games have been tested and just use the search bar to find out if a game falls into one of four categories: “Perfect”, “Playable”, “Works” or “Unplayable”. According to Linaro, the group of Arm engineers who built the website and counts Microsoft and Qualcomm among its supporters, the labels can be translated as follows:
- Perfect: The game runs at over 60 FPS at 1080p resolution with no issues or hitches affecting the gaming experience;
- Playable: The title runs at over 30 FPS at 1080p resolution with minimal issues/issues affecting the gaming experience;
- It works: The game runs with bugs that can affect the gaming experience
- Unplayable: The game does not work due to anti-cheat or other issues
It is important to note that the site does not specify graphics settings. Games may run at the lowest detail level to achieve the indicated framerates and resolutions. Furthermore, some titles use Microsoft’s AI upscaling (the automatic super resolution we talked about in another article) to achieve the objectives of fluidity and resolution, a data monitored by the website complete with a dedicated filter.
What are the results so far?
Currently, 747 games are listed as “perfect” for 1080p and 60fps, including Control Ultimate Edition. The full list of 19 “unplayable” games also includes well-known titles like Fortnite, Roblox and PUBG, which don’t even work on Steam Deck due to their anti-cheat measures. Microsoft says that the BattlEye anti-cheat system supports Arm, but this support evidently hasn’t been enough to make some games that use it work on Steam Deck.
Linaro, however, invites you to use the site as a general reference, not as an infallible tool. For this reason, user tests are also welcome.
