Fear in Naples due to a column of black smoke that suddenly rose, covering the sky of the Neapolitan city. The smoke came from a vast fire which in Scampia affected a particular area of the neighborhood. The firefighters promptly responded to the request for intervention, even though it was not easy to put out the flames.
The fire broke out on the night between 10 and 11 April 2024, at the Scampia nomad camp in Cupa Perillo. The black, acrid smoke was visible even for kilometers away, covering the northern part of the city of Naples.
I immediately intervened on site firefighters of the Naples Command, who put out the flames with the use of the supplied water tankers. Many calls from citizens worried about what was happening.
Francesco Emilio Borrellian environmentalist parliamentarian from the Alleanza Verdi Sinistra group, published images of what was happening on social media, reporting the complaint of a citizen who wrote to him, exasperated by that situation.
The man told the politician that he lived a short distance from the Scampia nomad camp. This would not be the first fire in the area. The population that inhabits those areas is literally tired of what is happening: they can't take it anymore.

Meanwhile the situation has returned to normal. THE fire fighters they extinguished the last outbreaks around 4 this morning. Wooden shacks and other materials located in the nomad camp caught fire.
The firefighters also had to use an excavator to remove the piles of waste they found upon their arrival. Unfortunately this is a growing phenomenon in the so-called Land of fireswhere fires are set to burn waste of all kinds, even dangerous ones.
