Sony Interactive Entertainment may be working on a new hardware PlayStation. Precisely, a new rumor points the finger towards a new PSP that he is capable of Play PS4 games natively.
The source is a Russian journalist, Anton Logvinov, whose article was shared and translated into English via ResetEra. Logvinov is the person who first confirmed that PlayStation exclusive games would be coming to PC, years before the official announcement, so he is considered at least potentially credible. The journalist published the information via a Telegram channel and it then circulated online.
As indicated, Sony Interactive Entertainment would like to create a PSP capable of playing PS4 games but specifically it would be limited only to those available on PC. This suggests that it would not be a sort of portable PS4, but a PC/console like Steam Deck and which would use the computer versions of PlayStation games.
Previous PlayStation Portable Console Rumors
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that Sony Interactive Entertainment could be working on a new PlayStation Portable (or whatever the name of that platform might be). In February, Moore’s Law is Dead talked about a new system powered by a custom AMD APU designed to maintain compatibility with PS4 and PS5 games.
While it is possible that this is the same system that Anton Logvinov talked about, the Russian journalist did not talk about PS5 games. However, it is difficult to say whether Logvinov simply did not receive confirmations for this generation’s games or the first rumor was not entirely accurate.
Sony already has a portable “console”, PlayStation Portal (which does better than expected in the US), but it can only launch titles via remote play from the PS5. What we are talking about now would be a true independent gaming platform.
Obviously these are just rumors and not official informationso for now it’s best to take everything with a grain of salt.
