YouTube is testing a new feature that will allow content creators to redesign “a limited number” of official songs with artificial intelligence (AI). The tool has been added to the set of experimental projects contemplated in the program Dream Track. Users will be able to modify the style and tones of the musical pieces to obtain a personalized soundtrack.
The resource is known as “Redesign a Track.” YouTube’s development team claims it’s useful for “giving a song a different genre or mood.” Explains that interested parties will only have to enter a text request to automatically obtain “a soundtrack of 30 seconds. [El resultado] “It reinvents the music and maintains the essence of the voices and lyrics of the original melody.”
The Google-owned service emphasizes that the repertoire that can be accessed through the new feature has been provided by selected musical partners. He emphasizes that the modified materials will give “a clear attribution” to the original topic. They will also include a badge to warn that the piece has been produced with the help of an AI system.
The video platform has said that this resource is enabled for now in a preliminary version only for “a small group” of youtubers. It does not rule out expanding its availability in the future.
In the middle of last year, the Google subsidiary registered more than 1.7 billion views on videos related to tools based on generative AI. The introduction of this feature is the latest move by YouTube to capitalize on the trend. In November 2023 the project was launched Dream Track. Under the umbrella of this strategy, it has launched various tools that explore the potential of this technology in multiple areas. The portal web introduced a feature a few months ago that allows users to create a track by simply humming a beat. It also made available to content creators an alternative that can generate AI songs using the voices of artists such as Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Sia, T-Pain and Troye Sivan.
YouTube is increasing its commitment to AI at a time when the music industry demands respect for copyrights against the indiscriminate use of its intellectual property in the training processes of intelligent algorithms. The firm has taken several steps to address these concerns. Last year, it announced the launch of Music IA Incubator, an exploration program around AI that aims to establish good practices in the use of technological advancement within the musical field. It includes three core principles that were created in collaboration with artists, songwriters and producers from Universal Music Group (UMG) and other music partners.
