In 82 he was born AutoCADthat computer-aided design (CAD) software, one of the first tools that allowed architects to finally abandon hand drawings completely, optimizing the process and reducing the time needed to modify and correct plans. In the 2000s, architecture moved towards the use of building information modeling (BIM). Years later, models and prototypes began to be made with 3D printing, and later augmented reality was even introduced. And in 2021 Rendair was born.
The startup, founded by two young Spaniards, Quim Civit and Jose Fabregat, based in Miami, specializes in creating architectural renders using AI. The tool allows architects, interior designers and real estate professionals to create hyper-realistic images from textual descriptions, 2D plans or 3D models, all automated through AI.
“During the pandemic, we saw a unique opportunity: traditional architecture needed a digital and visual push,” says Quim Civit, co-founder of Rendair. “The renders were expensive, slow and the correction process was chaotic.” It was then that they set out to democratize prices and streamline the entire process.
Throughout the process
Rendair has raised $2.1 million in financing and is already present in more than 70 countries. The key to its proposal beyond its focus on AI is its ability to cover all phases of a project. «Our platform allows users to use the same tool for all the processes of a project; “It allows you to work from the initial inspiration to the final visualization of the project, using both ‘renders’ generated by AI and those created by renderers,” explains Civit, highlighting that this is what differentiates them from other tools on the market.
The impact of AI on the architecture industry has been significant, but Civit insists that will not replace architects and that it is a tool like any other. “We believe that AI in the creative sectors has arrived to help them be more productive,” he says.
Rendair has experienced a rapid growth. As far as users are concerned, from January to date there have gone “from 500 to 35,000” users. As for the renders, “in January we made 5,000 a month and now more than 200,000,” says Civit, who also assures that the company has tripled its turnover annually since its founding in 2021.
Ease
The platform has also made sure to be easy to use for any designer, regardless of their experience with technology. “We have done A/B testing to ensure that the product is intuitive and accessible without the need for prior training,” adds Civit.
Looking to the future, the startup has plans focused on innovation. “Rendair’s plans are to be an ‘all-in-one’ digital tool that helps architects, interior designers and real estate agents digitize,” Civit concludes.
