A life dedicated to preserving the memory of Blas Infante

In the early hours of this April 4, 2024, María Ángeles Infante, daughter of Blas Infante and President of the Foundation that bears her name, died. María Ángeles, daughter of the Father of the Andalusian Nation – as recognized by the Statute of Autonomy of Andalusia – has died on the verge of turning 94 years of age.

María Ángeles Infante held the presidency of the Blas Infante Foundation and dedicated her life to preserving the historical legacy of her father, murdered by Franco's military in August 1936 during the military repression that took place after the military coup of July 18 in the streets and institutions of Seville.

For much of her life she was in charge of safeguarding and disseminating the legacy of the Father of the Andalusian Homeland and Andalusianism through the foundation, which she established in 1983 together with the then president of the Junta de Andalucía, Rafael Escuredo.

The Blas Infante Foundation, which was responsible for announcing the news of this death this morning, has dedicated itself throughout these years to the study of the life, work and thoughts of Blas Infante, author of Andalusian Ideal, and to the investigation of historical Andalusianism and its influence on Andalusian politics and society, as well as the dissemination of the culture of Andalusia.

In 2022, María Ángeles Infante collected the Manuel Clavero Medal awarded to the Blas Infante Foundation by the Junta de Andalucía on the occasion of Andalusia Day, for having known how to preserve and disseminate the historical legacy of her father as well as for having established herself during all these years as a bearer of the memory of the Andalusian leader who was a victim of Franco's repression.

With this loss, the circumstance occurs again, so often repeated in many Andalusian families, that their descendants leave without having been able to achieve the goal of reuniting with the remains or whereabouts of their ancestors murdered during that fascist barbarism.

Since the early hours of this Thursday morning there have been numerous expressions of condolences to his family from numerous institutions and organizations, and also from the main political leaders of the main social and political forces of our land to whom From here we add those of our Andalusian Federation of Historical and Democratic Memory and that of all its members.
