Individual investigations are things from the past. We are in the era of progress made choral. This is demonstrated by a group of social psychologists have been awarded in the XVII Edition BBVA Foundation Borders of Knowledge in the Social Sciences category. The winners have been Icek Ajzen, Dolores Albarracín, Mahzarin Banaji, Anthony Greenwald and Richard Petty. His contributions, said the jury, have revolutionized the theory of attitudes and their practical applications
The Border Awards of Knowledgecreated by the BBVA Foundation, recognize scientific contributions and high -impact cultures worldwide. The objective, assume from the organization, consists in “celebrating and promoting the value of knowledge as a public good without borders.”
Since then, and almost two decades, the jury, of an international nature, receives candidacies from the main academic, scientific and cultural institutions around the world. “These works benefit the whole of humanity because they are the best tool we have to face the great global challenges of our time,” they add.
Last year, the award -winning in the Social Sciences category was Elke Weber, head of the Gerhard R. Andlinger Energy and Environment and Professor Public Affairs at the University of Princeton (United States). The jury recognized “environmental decision making and human responses to climate change from an interdisciplinary perspective that feeds on psychology, neuroscience, behavioral economy, sociology and environmental science.” The act stressed that “she is also an influential environmental policy advisor and participates widely in forums such as the United Nations Intergovernmental Intergovernmental Group (IPCC).”
In many other editions, the winners in the social sciences category were also Susan Fiske, professor of Psychology at Princeton University (USA) and Shelley Taylor, Distinguished Research Profession of the University of California in Los Angeles (USA). Both are considered pioneers of social cognition for having revealed the role of cognitive biases in social relations.
The jury of this category is chaired by Stephen G.Sireci, Distinguished University Professor and executive director of the Educational Evaluation Center of the University of Massachusetts Amherst (United States), and has José Muñiz, rector of the Nebrija University and Professor of Psychometry at the University of Oviedo, as secretary.
The vowels are Matilde Carlón, Professor of Administrative Law of the Complutense University of Madrid; Roberto Colom, Professor of Differential Psychology at the Autonomous University of Madrid; Catherine E. de Vries, head of the Generali Chair and European Policy Professor at Bocconi University (Italy); and Jorge Fernández del Valle, Professor of Psychosocial Intervention at the University of Oviedo.
