Are you a fan of XXL TVs? Then TCL panels are what you should look at in the near future! During a recent TCL Europe event, the company revealed its production process for large TV panels, showing how the 115-inch giants are created and hinting at the possibility of reaching up to 148 inches diagonal.
It all starts with a sheet of mother glass, the true heart of production. Its size is fundamental: the larger it is, the more TV panels can be obtained. TCL currently boasts two generations of active production lines: the 8.5G and the 11G (two Gen 11 and two Gen 8.5, also at the Shenzhen plant). The first allows you to obtain two 98-inch panels from a single mother glass, while the second goes beyond the limits with its 2.94 x 3.37 meters, for a surface of almost 10 square meters which allows you to create two panels 115 inches.
The same panels we recently saw for the 115-inch TCL 115X955 Max (pictured above).
Because 148 inches is (almost) possible
The 11G line could therefore go further, if demand required it, exploiting every centimeter of glass to produce two 130-inch panels. Theoretically, TCL could even launch a 148-inch model by cutting a single panel from the long side of the glass. However, this scenario remains a dream, at least for now: the waste of glass would be excessive, making production uneconomical.
In short, there are no concrete plans for a 148 inch TV, but the technology is ready. If demand from enthusiasts grows, it is reasonable to imagine increasingly larger home screens: also because the sales results of the last period suggest that the TV market is driven by large premium TVs.
