The CUP councilor in Sant Cugat del Vallès (Barcelona) Ariadna Sierrahas reported that she has been a victim of continued sexist harassment byJosep Arcassecretary of organization of theNationalist Youth of Catalonia (JNC) local, the youth of Junts.
In a speech at the plenary session this Monday, Sierra described several episodes of harassment. Arcas also appeared at a plenary session with a box of condoms and gave it to Sierra “saying that he wanted to prevent us from reproducing,” and he introduced himself in a space where she works as a volunteer“with more condoms,” Sierra said, pointing out that her companions prevented her from finding her.
Sierra has assured that this member of the JNC has campaigned, is a representative and appears in photos on both the official account and the mayor, who is from Junts. For this reason, the CUP councilor has asked that they “take responsibility” for Arcas’ actions. The JNC has already apologized to Sierra. The general secretary of Junts has also done so, Jordi Turull.
The general secretary of the JNC, Adriana Urrozhas assured that he has already personally transferred the actions that Sierra has publicly denounced to the internal disciplinary body: “These events do not represent the JNC and I have personally transferred them to the councilor,” he stated in his X profile.
Urroz added that Arcas is a member of the JNC but that he has no responsibility at the national level and that he does not act “following orders or slogans.” For his part, the local head of the JNC and secretary of local organization of Junts,Angel Segurahas highlighted, also in X, thatArcas is not a member of Junts but is a member of the JNCand that there are limits that he considers cannot be overcome: “I convey on behalf of the JNC Sant Cugat our most sincere apologies and our condemnation of the events that the councilor has explained.”
For his part, the mayor of Sant Cugat,Josep Maria Valles has expressed himself on networks by retweeting this message from Turull. Although initially he only responded to the councilor assuring that they took note of her words,without taking any actionagainst the actions of Arcas.

For his part, the general secretary of the CUP,Non Casadevall has assured in statements to TV3 that this is a “very reportable” incident and has regretted the “thunderous silence” of the mayor. “This isa clear example of what happens to women when they enter politicsor occupy spaces of power, they are besieged, punished and persecuted more than men,” he said.
