A building in the La Albericia area, in Santander, collapsed in the early hours of this Friday the 25th after an explosion. According to ‘El Diario Montañés’the event occurred around 4 in the morning and the reasons for the incident have not been clarified at the moment.
Firefighters managed to rescue several people, including two girls whose parents, a couple who lived on the first floor of the building, they are still missing. In addition to them, there is a third person who lived alone who could not be found either. One of the girls was transferred to the Vallecilla Hospital in the Cantabrian capital and the other is with a family member. There are in totall eight residents of the building injured in the same medical center.
The local authorities, headed by the Cantabrian president María José Sáenz de Buruaga and the mayor Gema Igual, have gone to the scene of the accident to take an interest in the victims and try to help in any way they can. A team of psychologists from 112 has also attended to assist those affected.
In addition to the damaged building, three other neighboring buildings have been evacuated as a precaution against possible damage to their structures.
