Everest is an imposing mountain 8,848 meters high above sea level and is the dream destination of mountaineers from all over the world. The ascent begins at its base camp, which is more than 5,000 meters high and a Catalan, Albert Cogul, has reached there and has done so in a wheelchair.
From Barcelona to the Himalayan mountain range, a feat that in his case is, if possible, more impressive, because a traffic accident caused a spinal injury that left him in a wheelchair. “I can do things that anyone else can do,” says Albert. That’s why he set out to reach Everest base camp and do it, too, with Daniel and Ángel, his two sons.
For months they have trained to take the chair to the top. With everything prepared they undertook a trip of several days to the base camp. From there, a difficult climb through this impressive mountain range. Ahead, extreme conditions, altitude, lack of oxygen and up to 22 degrees below zero. With Everest and a solo crossing of the Atlantic under his belt, Albert is already thinking about returning home to begin his next challenge.
