Mateu Nicolau, popular Mallorcan corridor, died while participating in the ‘Cursa 8 I Mig’
The sport, more specifically the Mallorcan sport, was dyed this Sunday with the death of Mateu Nicolau Urreaknown as Mateu Feliu, 68, during the popular ‘Cursa del 8 i mig’ (Career of 8 and a half).
According to local media, Mateu Feliu suffered a heart attack from which he could not recover despite the attempts of health assists for saving his life.
«Today he had to run in Campos (Municipality of Mallorca): ‘Cursa del 8 i mig’ … Today the sky won a star. The rest of us have lost a great partner and friend: one of those who was always there. Rest in peace Mateu Feliu, ”he published the Campos Athletics Club in his Facebook social network account.
It is precisely the aforementioned club that organizes the race every year. AND Mateu was one of the great drivers of that test and of numerous events of the Mallorcan popular calendar. Therefore, it was much appreciated in the world of athletics of the island.
That love was summarized in the message written by the Athletics Federation of the Balearic Islands (FAIB): «FAIB wants to join in mourning of the Mallorcan popular athletic community for death this Sunday of Mateu Nicolau ‘Feliu’. The charismatic veteran of the CE Campos has left us while participating in the Cursa del 8 and Mig that was disputed in his town. Rest in peace ».

The dead veteran athlete stood out for participating regularly in the island’s tests, although lately he had reduced his sporting activity after having suffered a mishap years ago during the triathlon of SA Ràpita.
