What did the creators say about their new show?
Dark creators Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar noted that 1899 won’t have the special seasoning of time travel like Dark. “The show will focus on horror with a unique feature: the cast is 100% European and the characters each speak their native language,” Odar highlighted at the press presentation.
“The program is based on the historical period of the European migration crisis, when the population of the ‘Old Continent’ ventured to America, the Middle East and Africa to start a new life in places full of hope. The whole European angle was very important to us, not only in terms of the story, but also in how we were going to produce it,” Friese said.
While Odar stated, “We don’t repeat ourselves, we really hate it, but it will be a fun puzzle for the audience. We go back to our mysterious roots.” His companion added: “All the passengers on the ship travel with secrets that they do not want to reveal.”
